Yoga is arguably one of the most popular exercises of all time. Touted as a cure for many modern-day ailments, it is gaining even greater acceptance among the young and trendy. But as it is with anything massively popular, awaiting in the wings is the potential proverbial spanner.
In the October 2007 issue of Time Magazine, an article described how orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists and chiropractors across the US are dealing with “increasing fallout from Yoga gone awry”. Figures from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission put the number of Americans being treated for Yoga-related injuries at 13,000 as the author of the article questioned whether Yoga is effective for one to get fit, lose weight or increase one’s cardiovascular health.
